Training - Week of March 24 to 30th

Well, the rec room is back into a state of liveableness, note that I did not say its complete there is still quite a bit to do but what is left can be one in small tasks it doesn't need to be done as a big job.

As I could now find my bike again I was excited to come home from work and set it back up on the trainer. I put in ~50 workout with the Mental Toughness DVD. I'm sure there will be days of hills and head winds that I will need that mental toughness!

I've been stewing a great fundraiser idea this past week....but I'll leave you in suspence while I plan the logistics...stay tuned.

March 27th

Got home a bit early today from the office, so got right on my bike for an hour pedal. Loving the Have Mercy workout. I'll have these workout videos memorized soon.

Working on some logical stuff for my big fundraising idea, once I get those major things worked out I'll make a formal announcement to you with the details. Stay tuned......

Planning on doing some gear shopping soon. The MEC spring/summer catalogue showed up in the mail box today, how did they know that I was looking to spend money? The gear investments will be clips, shoes, and shorts. I'm also investigating new handle bars. I'm riding a mountain bike on the tour, so whatever I can do it make the bike more road friendly will be good.

March 30th

I've been pretty consistant it seems with 3 or 4 rides a week. Today's ride was a bit longer, did the full 1 hr 30 minute ride DVD. Felt good the entire time, but its these rides that are just a bit longer (really no where near the length of the days I'll be cycling on the road!) but a bit longer than an hour, that I realize how much I need proper padded cycling shorts. I will have to go and do some gear shopping sometime in the near future as I'll want everything to be well broke-in before the tour.

My goal for training this week is 30 minute workouts everyday this week, no rest days.

Training - Week of March 17 to 23rd

Well, I must confess that training has been shuffled in the priority list this week as we decided to undergo some basement renos. My bike and bike trainer are now buried under piles of funiture and stuff as we moved everything out of the way to paint our rec room.

I did get in a good hard 1 hour ride on Tuesday night. Boy, this week the roads have been drying up and its starting to feel like SPRING! I saw also of people out on their bike, and am itching to get out as well. I will wait a few more weeks though as once I move my bike outside I hope all my training can be on the road (but its too early for Winnipeg, we will inevitably have a bit more witer before blessed with full-on Spring).
Hope to get our rec-room back into a liveable space by early this upcoming week so I can get back on my bike. I have really loved working out on my bike (first year I've done this through the winter).

Training - Week of March 10 to 16th

March 10, 2008
Did a 40 minute ride after work. The spin workout (DVD) was called "Muscle Breakdown" - yup I feel it.

March 13th
Been a bit of a slacker this week, and wasn't feeling so hot tonight. I did get on my bike for a mini-ride of 20 minutes.

This weekend is our March- Cycle of Hope Clinic. This is the first chance I will have had to met the whole team, as I've been out of town for work during the January and February meetings. Looking forward to meeting the team!

March 15th

This morning the Cycle of Hope team met at the Habitat for Humanity Re-store for the March Cycle of Hope Clinic. The main topics of this meeting was nutrition & fundraising - but we talked about many of the logical and planning aspects of the trip. I took away alot of very useful info from the many experienced cyclists about gear and nutrition - I'm going to make notes about alot of these things in a separate posting, such as: cycle tips, gear must haves & things to remember.

It was great to met the group. Seems the majority of the cyclists have been involved with the Cycle of Hope in previous years. I had to dash off shortly after the more formal part of our meeting so I unfortunately didn't get to personally meet too many other cyclists, but there is lots of time for that in upcoming meetings and fundraisers.

March 16th

Did a 30 minute tempo ride. This work out is part of the "Tough Love" spinervals workout DVD, and this 30 minute session is a great workout when I don't have more than 1/2 hour.

Training -Week of March 03 to 09

March 04, 2008

Put in a good hard hour with Coach Troy. Wow, look at those shoulders - gotta work on some form. But right now its getting the butt conditioned & getting in shape. Then work on distance and better form will come with that....or atleast this is how I see things eveolving.

Cat.

March 05, 2008 The requirements of daily living didn't allow me the time to hop on my bike tonight. Tomorrow night right after work I'll have to make up for it.
I found this picture I took a few years ago. As the days are increasing growing longer I know it won't be too long before we can break out of the snow and hit the open road.

March 06, 2008

Did a 45 minute ride after work, my husband set up his bike & trainer and joined me for a bit (he use to do triathlon...seems its hereditary). My poor dog will learn not to stick her head under my pedals - poor thing I didn't notice her sneak-up behind the trainer and she got her nose bonked with my right foot. Plan to do a longer ride tomorrow/or Saturday.

March 09, 2008

Finished off the week on a great training note. This morning did an easy 1/2 hour jog with my brother and my babe Brook (10 month black lab) through Assiniboine Forest. It was a great day to get outside, sunny and a warm -10C. Got back and got on the bike. And did 31 km at a good tempo ~25km/hr while watching some russian mobster movie. It felt good, a bit sadle sore but have to work up to these longer rides.
